6 REASONS WHY THE KHMER EMPIRE FELL

CLIMATE CHANGE

Civilizations can fall because of many reasons. Some of those reasons include conflicts within the civilization itself, or maybe conflicts against other civilizations, another reason why a civilization can fall is lack of resources, or maybe even the climate isn’t right. Another reason is that they can’t adapt to the different changes happening around them

RELGIOUS BELIEFS

Given that there were two major religions in the Khmer Empire, Buddhism and Hinduism, there was bound to be a lot of fights about which was the better religion. These fights could have potentially provoked large fights and even miniature wars inside the kingdom itself, this means that the Khmer Empire was being brought down by its own people.

TRADING WITH FRIENDS

Trade is important for any civilization. Some of the biggest traders with the Khmer Empire were India and China. If countries like these stopped working with the Khmer Empire catastrophe would have happened. supplies would have been cut short because of the shortage of trade. Without trade the Khmer Empire would have struggled to survive.

WAR OR FIGHTING

War was very common in those times. Armies in the Khmer empire averaged 20,000 men. A large amount this massive force would have died in war, and without people to do all the different tasks and work the whole kingdom would have fallen into chaos and would have eventually been overrun by other armies.

NATURAL DISASTERSFLOODS

Floods would have been able to kill a lot of people in the area, this would be a reasonable reason for the buildings and structures that are still standing today. Floods have the capacity to kill and destroy large areas that can include crops and other food supplies. A lot of people could have been affected by floods because a lot of people would live close to large rivers and lakes for a source of water

PLAGUE

A plague could have broken out in the Khmer Empire area and killed a lot of the their kingdom’s population. Without enough population there wouldn’t be enough people to tend to the necessities of the different villages and farms, and without working villages and farms the whole empire would have fallen quickly.
